Determining your Eligibility

You must get authorization from the NC Home Inspector Licensing Board (NC HILB) to take an examination.

An approved application is required before an exam may be scheduled. Please click on Apply for License for instructions on completing an application.

The NC HILB approved transitioning to an online, live-proctored, remote HILB Exam. Until December 18, 2025, you may choose to test in-person at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, or remotely.

You will select online, live-proctored, remote testing (QUEST) or testing in person as part of the application process. Once you have selected the exam session type, you will not be able to make a change.

Beginning December 19, 2025, all NC HILB Exams will be offered as only online, live-proctored, remote through QUEST.
