Determining your Eligibility

You must get authorization from the NC Code Officials Qualification Board (the Board) to take an examination.

The NC Code Officials Qualification Board (COQB) approved transitioning to a remote online line live-proctored COQB exam. Until June 30, 2026, you may choose to test in-person at a PSI site or remotely. Beginning July 1, 2026, all COQB exams will be remote proctored online.

You will select remote proctored online testing (Quest) or testing at a PSI location as part of the application process. Once you have completed your application, you will not be able to change the exam session type.
