North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Andrew Konrad Roesch, 56, of 7037 N.C. Highway 751, Durham, was charged with three misdemeanor counts of failing to perform fire inspection duties in Durham County Schools.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Roesch of failing to perform alarm tests and inspecting fire alarms at Fayetteville Street, Southwest and Hillandale elementary schools, all in Durham County.
According to the criminal summons, Roesch falsified the inspection forms for the three schools by copying information from the 2020 inspection onto the 2021 inspection form without performing the required tests.
The offenses occurred on April 1, 2021.
Last month, the Office of State Fire Marshal and special agents were asked to assist the Durham County Fire Marshal’s Office with an investigation within the Durham County Schools. The investigation resulted in the determination that the records had been falsified, testing had not been completed as documented and the necessary repairs had not been made.
Roesch was served with a criminal summons on Nov. 22. He is due in Durham County District Court on Jan. 9, 2023.
If you suspect criminal activity, insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.
