Insurance Commissioner Causey to Present Order of the Guardian Award to Chief Danny Wilson

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey on Tuesday will honor first Chief Danny Wilson for his 46 years of service to the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Commissioner Causey, in his role as State Fire Marshal, will present the Order of the Guardian Award during a ceremony at the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. The Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department is located at 1133 Sardis Church Road, Madison, N.C. 27025.

The Guardian Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Commissioner. Chief Wilson joined the fire department in 1975 as a charter member and is stepping down after more than 25 years of service in the role of fire chief.

Chief Wilson started taking fire classes in the fall of 1975 with other soon-to-be volunteers in hopes of starting a fire department to provide fire protection to their neighbors. He served as a firefighter and rose to the rank of assistant chief until being named the Fire Chief in 1996. He was named by his peers as Firefighter of the Year in 1979 and again in 2004.

Chief Wilson has spent his whole life farming and working two full-time jobs while also giving countless hours of service to the citizens of the Huntsville Fire District and the surrounding areas.
