The holiday season is here, a time to enjoy spending time with family and friends and decking the halls with beautiful Christmas decorations. 

To make sure your family has fun and stays safe this Christmas, Chief State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor and Office of State Fire Marshal staff along with Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, will host a live Christmas tree fire demonstration on Friday, Dec. 8. The goal is to reinforce home fire safety efforts during the holiday season by showing just how quickly a dry Christmas tree can burn and spread flames throughout a room.

Safe Kids North Carolina’s Community Risk Reduction team is joining Safe Kids Worldwide, Safe Kids Guilford and State Farm to host a car seat safety checkup event on Thursday, November 16 from 1-4 p.m. in Greensboro.

This event is part of a new initiative – the Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Program. This program aims to bring child passenger safety to families and communities across the country to help ensure kids are buckled up in the right seat for every ride. The event is free and open to the public.   

As the end of daylight-saving time approaches on Sunday, Nov. 5, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is reminding North Carolinians: As we set our clocks back one hour, remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is joining Safe Kids Pitt County Director Ellen Walston and North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program Director Mark Ezzell to help save children’s lives by making sure families use a properly installed child safety seat in their vehicles.

To kick off Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs Sept. 17-23, families and media are invited to a Child Passenger Safety Clinic on Monday, Sept. 18, at the Kohl’s parking lot in Greenville to show how properly installed child restraints can greatly improve the safety of a child.

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is urging North Carolinians to celebrate safely by following a few simple summer safety steps.

Fireworks, grilling out and water activities are traditional parts of America’s Independence Day celebrations, but all have inherent risks that could ultimately end in serious injury or death.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present a special commissioner’s award for heroism to Zsakiyah Sutton at Rochelle Middle School in Kinston as part of a multi-county visit on Wednesday, Oct 26.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will present the special award to 11-year old Zsakiyah Sutton during an afternoon visit at the school.

As students and teachers prepare to head back to class, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who also serves as Chair of Safe Kids N.C., is reminding everyone to keep safety in mind when walking, driving, or riding the bus to school.

“We all have an important role to play in keeping our children safe,” said Commissioner Causey. “Drivers need to be on the lookout for crowded crosswalks and school buses on the road and parents need to talk to their children about the importance of traveling to school safely. It only takes one mistake to cause a tragic injury or death to a child.”
