The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) would like to make instructors, training agencies, and certification candidates aware of several upcoming changes affecting instructor qualifications, firefighter certifications, driver/operator certifications, and OSFM24 profiles. Please review the information below and share it with members of your organization.
- OSFM24 Profile
a. Please let your instructors know to update their OSFM24 profile as their primary email will be how each is contacted concerning upgrades and requalifications
b. Effective October 01, 2026, FEMA SID numbers will be required for OSFM registrations – there is a place on each OSFM24 profile to enter that number – please encourage everyone to enter their FEMA SID into their profile. - Instructor Upgrade
a. All qualified instructors will be required to take the instructor upgrade
b. Failure to attend will result in the inability to requalify in ANY/ALL future instructor upgrades beginning with any upgrade required after October 01, 2026.
c. Upgrade classes will be face to face from October to December 2026.
d. Instructors will be receiving an email notification through their primary email address listed in their OSFM24 profile. - Firefighter Requalification
a. Firefighter Requalifications will be conducted face to face from February to May 2027.
b. The new Firefighter 2024 edition will begin July 01, 2027.
c. The current Firefighter 2019 edition program will sunset on June 30, 2027.
d. The new program will return to individual subject classes.
e. A crossover sheet will be available showing credit from the current edition to the new edition.
f. New program information will be posted on OSFM's website soon. - Live Fire Requalification
a. Live Fire requalification will be conducted face to face from February to May 2027; in conjunction with the Firefighter requalification offerings. - Driver Operator Requalification
a. Driver Operator requalification offerings will be conducted face to face from October to December 2026.
b. Driver Operator 2024 edition will be effective January 01, 2027. - OSFM24 Changes
a. Live Fire Report and Injury Report
i. Live Burn Notification can now be done through website and/or OSFM24
ii. Only available on OSFM24 to Live Fire Qualified Instructors
iii. Can be completed through the website and/or OSFM24
iv. The OSFM24 version is more comprehensive
v. Only required for Certification Courses and Live Burn Training injuries

a. Who can teach TR Intro? - Instructors qualified to teach Firefighter 2019 OR TR Ropes 2021
