Performance Standard

NFPA 1006 2021 edition Standard for Technical Rescue Professional Qualifications

*No crossover credits are available from any Rescuer certification program into the Technical Rescuer NFPA 1006 2021 edition Program.

NFPA 1006

Prerequisites

Check each certification for certification specific required prerequisites.

The following prerequisites are required for all TR Certifications:

  • Medical Requirements
    • NC OEMS Medical 1st Responder, EMT or higher
    • Firefighter/Technical Rescuer Emergency Medical Care
  • Hazmat Materials Awareness and Operations Certification
  • Age and Education
    • Must be 18 years of age and hold a High School Diploma or GED
  • Introduction to Technical Rescue Course
    • Firefighters and Technical Rescuers certified prior to the 2021 edition will not need the Intro to Technical Rescue Course.
    • Introduction to Technical Rescue Course is required PRIOR to taking TR Ropes (Chapter 5) and TR Common Vehicle Rescue (Chapter 8).
  • TIMS Traffic Incident Management (FIP 7000) - This is a required in person course.
  • TR Health and Wellness
    • TR Health and Wellness (FIP 6504). Note: Firefighter Fireground Ops 1 (FIP 3041) meets the requirements of TR Health and Wellness - FIP 6504.

TR Ropes NFPA 1006 2021 edition Chapter 5

Prerequisites

* Introduction to Technical Rescue Course - Firefighters and Technical Rescuer certified PRIOR to the 2021 edition will not need this requirement.

Delivery Options

Two options to complete TR Ropes certification:

  • Take the TR Ropes (FRC 1201) - Recommended Hours: 111 / Maximum Hours: 133

OR

  • Take the three separate courses:
    - TR Ropes Awareness (FRC 1202) - Recommended Hours: 9 / Maximum Hours: 11
    - TR Ropes Operations (FRC 1203) - Recommended Hours: 51 / Maximum Hours: 61
    - TR Ropes Technician (FRC 1204) - Recommended Hours: 51 / Maximum Hours: 61

Prerequisites

* Introduction to Technical Rescue Course - Firefighters and Technical Rescuer certified PRIOR to the 2021 edition will not need this requirement.
