Fire & Emergency Service Instructor

Become a Qualified Instructor

Once certified for Instructor I and/or II, candidates cannot instruct certification programs until they qualify in the subject area desired to teach.

Instructor I

Performance Standard

NFPA 1041, 2019 Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 4.

After successful completion of this course candidates will receive the Fire Instructor I Fire and Rescue Commission IFSAC Certification. 

Reference Material

IFSTA - Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, 9th Edition

Pre-requisite(s)

The candidate must be at least 21 years of age

The candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent (i.e., GED)

TIMS (FIP 7000)

Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, HazMat Ops, or FLSE certified for three years.

**As of August 2020, the Certification Board requires that candidates MUST meet the prerequisite of being certified for three years in Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, HazMat Ops, or FLSE BEFORE taking Fire Instructor I.

If the student takes the class before the 3 years has been completed, they will have to take the Fire Instructor I class AGAIN after the 3 year requirement has been satisfied.

Instructor II
