Rescue Squad Worker's Relief Fund

Purpose

The purpose of the Rescue Squad Worker's Relief Fund is to financially assist any rescue or EMS worker in active service from financial loss while in the performance of his/her duties.

Eligibility Criteria

(NC General Statute 58-88-10)

  • Any member of a rescue squad or EMS service eligible for membership in the North Carolina Association of Rescue & EMS ("Association") and who has attended a minimum of 36 hours of training and meetings in the last calendar year.
  • Each rescue squad or EMS service whose members are eligible for membership in the "Association" who has filed a roster certifying to the Association's secretary-treasurer who certifies to the Insurance Commissioner by January 1 of each calendar year that all eligible members have met the requirements.

General Statute

The Rescue Squad Workers' Relief Fund is created and governed by NC General Statute 58-88-1-30. 

Funding

Twelve cents ($0.12) of vehicle inspection stickers.

Disbursement of Funds

The North Carolina Department of Insurance receives the monies collected from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and disburses to the North Carolina Association of Rescue & EMS (NCAREMS) for payment of benefits.
