The North Carolina Emergency Training Center (NCETC) is purpose-built to deliver the most realistic and secure emergency response training available today. Every structure, simulator, and system on our campus is designed to mirror real-world challenges while maintaining the highest standards for safety, effectiveness, and environmental responsibility.

Key Training Facilities and Equipment

  • Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Trainer
Our full-scale 737/C130 aircraft prop allows for advanced hands-on training in both turret and handline firefighting techniques. This trainer simulates a wide range of emergency scenarios on the airfield.

  • Hydrocarbon Burn Pit
The 3,500-gallon Jet-A fueled burn pit enables foam-flow exercises under live-fire conditions. This pit is a cornerstone of our ARFF and hazardous materials training programs.

  • Wing Trainer and Foam Application Zone
A dedicated wing trainer enables responders to practice precise foam application, fuel spill control, and handline management in close quarters.

  • Propane-Based Fire Systems
Propane-fueled fire props deliver controlled, repeatable fire conditions. Combined with non-toxic smoke, these props support complex rescue simulations with minimal environmental impact.

  • SCBA-Compatible Structures
Our facility supports full SCBA operations, giving students the opportunity to train in gear while performing physically demanding tasks in fire and rescue environments.

Safety Systems

Safety is foundational at NCETC. Our systems are designed to protect students, instructors, and support personnel at all times.

  • Computer-Controlled Burn Monitoring
Our systems perform pre-burn diagnostics and continuously monitor for anomalies during training exercises.

  • Manual Shut-Offs and Emergency Controls
Multiple redundant shut-off points and a handheld radio system allow immediate deactivation of fire systems in case of emergency.

  • Medical Readiness
On-site medical equipment and staff are available to respond instantly to injuries or health concerns.

Environmental Responsibility

NCETC is committed to sustainability and environmental safety throughout its operations.

  • Non-Toxic Smoke Simulation
We use clean-burning smoke systems that simulate limited visibility conditions without harmful particulates.

  • Fuel-Water Separation
Runoff from foam training is captured by a fuel-water separator. Recovered fuel is safely reused, and filtered water is sent to municipal treatment facilities.
