About
The North Carolina Emergency Training Center (NCETC) is a purpose-built facility dedicated to preparing emergency responders for the complex challenges of today’s world. Located at the Stanly County Airport in New London, NC, NCETC delivers high-level, scenario-based training in a controlled and safe environment.
Our Mission
To equip emergency personnel with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond effectively to critical incidents—safely, professionally, and with excellence.
Our History
The North Carolina Emergency Training Center (NCETC) was created through a partnership between the NC Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the North Carolina Air National Guard, and Stanly County. First announced in 2017, the project has grown into one of the state’s largest public safety training investments.
In 2021, Governor Roy Cooper signed a bipartisan budget that dedicated $28 million for construction at the Stanly County Airport, including a state-of-the-art Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) crash simulator. To date, the state has committed $87 million and established an operating budget within OSFM to ensure long-term success. This funding makes advanced, affordable training accessible to emergency responders—particularly for low-frequency, high-risk incidents where readiness saves lives.
Built through strong collaboration, NCETC is on track for completion in 2025 and is positioned to become one of the most advanced emergency training facilities in the nation. It will expand capabilities in critical areas such as Swift Water Rescue, Aircraft Firefighting, Urban Search and Rescue, Hazardous Materials response, and Fire Investigation Technician courses.
Training That Mirrors Reality
NCETC’s programs are built on realism. With assets like a full-scale 737/C130 ARFF trainer, a 3,500-gallon Jet-A hydrocarbon burn pit, and advanced simulation equipment, responders are trained to operate confidently in the conditions they will face on the job.
A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
Upon full completion, NCETC will offer courses in:
- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)
- Swift Water Rescue
- Urban Search and Rescue (USAR)
- Hazardous Materials Response
- Fire Investigation
Built with Safety and Sustainability in Mind
Our facility prioritizes both human and environmental safety. Redundant control systems, strict safety protocols, and environmentally conscious fuel separation and reclamation systems ensure every training event meets the highest standards.
Moving Forward
As construction progresses and course offerings expand, NCETC is poised to become the most advanced emergency training facility in the country. We are proud to support the responders who protect North Carolina’s communities—today and into the future.
