Section: 104.1.2

Question: A new convention center requires plan review by the Department of Insurance. In the interest of time, can the review be performed by an outside private third party engineering firm?

Answer: A local inspection department may review the plans itself if the inspection department and its inspectors meet the requirements of Section 104.1.2 of the Administrative Code. The inspection department may employ qualified design professionals or firms to assist the department. The inspection department may also contract with individuals or private inspection firms to perform the duties on behalf of department. See GS 153A-353 and 160A-413. The third party contract should be with the inspection department rather than with the design team.
