For Immediate Release: North Carolina Leaders Launch Child Passenger Safety Week with Free Car Seat Checks and Press Conference in Morrisville

MOORESVILLE, NC
Sep 22, 2025

State and local leaders are joined forces to keep North Carolina’s children safe on the road during Child Passenger Safety Week, September 21–28, 2025. The statewide campaign kicked off Monday, September 22 at Morrisville Fire Station 1 followed by a free car seat safety clinic.

Child Passenger Safety Week (September 22–28, 2025) is a nationwide campaign dedicated to educating parents, caregivers, and communities about the importance of properly securing children in car seats, booster seats, and seat belts. Throughout the week, certified technicians statewide will provide car seat inspections and installation guidance will take place in counties across North Carolina.

Nearly 975,000 children under age eight in North Carolina are required by law to ride in a car seat or booster seat. With nearly 80% of child safety seats installed or used incorrectly, North Carolina has 295 permanent child passenger safety checking stations with trained technicians who assist families year-round.

Quotes:
Brian Taylor, Chief State Fire Marshal: “As a father and your State Fire Marshal, I know there’s nothing more important than protecting our children,” said Taylor. “Child safety seats save lives, but nearly 80% are used incorrectly. This week is about making sure families across North Carolina have the knowledge and resources to buckle up their children the right way, every ride, every time.”

Mark Ezzell, Director, NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program: “For years, GHSP has proudly supported North Carolina’s child passenger safety program, and we remain committed to this life-saving mission,” said Ezzell. “When parents know how to properly install and use car seats, it makes all the difference. We want every family in our state to feel confident their children are as safe as possible on the road.”
