Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey to present Order of the Guardian award, fire and rescue grants to Avery County fire departments Thursday

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey will award approximately $250,000.00 in fire and rescue grants to ten volunteer fire departments in need during a trip to Avery County Thursday, June 10.  While there, Commissioner Causey will also present the Order of the Guardian award to Avery County Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator David Charles Vance.

The Guardian award is presented to citizens who have more than 30 years of outstanding service in either the fire or insurance industry. Fire Marshal Vance will retire from the county July 1, 2021 after 31 years of fire service in Avery County as fire fighter, fire chief, county fire marshal and emergency management coordinator.
