Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to set up Victims’ Assistance Center, visit areas hit by floods in N.C. mountains

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will visit western North Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 19, to tour areas devastated by floods earlier this week and to visit a Victims’ Assistance Center set up by the N.C. Department of Insurance to answer questions of flood victims.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will stop by two Haywood County fire stations in areas among the hardest hit by the flood. The Office of State Fire Marshal is helping provide resources for the two stations, along with providing an incident management team to help run a coordinated command post in the county.

The Victims’ Assistance Center will be on hand at Lowe’s Home Improvement at 100 Liner Cove Road, Waynesville, N.C. 28786 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19. Experts from the N.C. Department of Insurance will assist consumers and answer any questions residents have about the recent storm and their insurance.
