State Fire Marshal Mike Causey to honor Raleigh firefighters who took extra measures to help woman who suffered New Year’s Eve loss

-

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey on Wednesday will honor two Raleigh firefighters who went more than the extra mile to help the victim of a New Year’s Eve fire.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will present Commissioner’s Awards to Capt. Dena Ali and Lt. Marcus Horne at Station 11, 2925 Glenridge Road, Raleigh, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 28.

Capt. Ali, who responded to the fire where 76-year-old Betty Campbell lived, along with other Station 11 firefighters, couldn’t get Ms. Campbell off her mind after witnessing the tragedy that she suffered. Ms. Campbell was living in a shed next to her sister’s house because she had trouble climbing up and down the stairs in the house.

Capt. Ali took to social media to help raise money to help her. Within 24 hours, she’d raised $4,000. All the money went to Ms. Campbell.

Lt. Horne of Victor Company, a non-profit made up of minority firefighters, worked with another company to install a lift in Ms. Campbell’s sister’s house for free, allowing her to live with her sister.

Here is Commissioner Causey’s public schedule for Wednesday:

9 a.m. Raleigh Fire Department – Station 11 (Commissioner’s Awards presentation)
2925 Glenridge Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27604
