As the summer swimming season kicks into full gear, Insurance Commissioner and Safe Kids North Carolina Chair Mike Causey reminds parents and caregivers about important safety tips to reduce child drownings.



“On these warm summer days in North Carolina, many families will be drawn to activities near water,” said Commissioner Causey. “Drownings can happen so fast – before you even realize what’s happening. So, we want parents and caregivers to be particularly cautious and take steps to avoid any potential tragedies in the water.” 

As temperatures heat up with the onset of summer, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey reminds North Carolinians of the dangers of leaving children and pets inside cars.



“The fun of summer can quickly become tragic if parents mistakenly leave their child or pet inside a car,” said Commissioner Causey. “It only takes 10 minutes for the temperature to rise to dangerous levels, so be sure to look before you lock.”

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey and New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon will hold an Operation Medicine Drop drug take-back event Wednesday, April 14, at the New Hanover County Detention Facility in Castle Hayne.



Operation Medicine Drop events are held throughout the state in an effort to curb the state’s opioid crisis and save lives. The New Hanover Sheriff’s office OMD event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Commissioner Causey and Sheriff McMahon will have a media availability at 11 a.m.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey and Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes will hold an Operation Medicine Drop drug take-back event Tuesday, March 30, at the Township 7 Fire Department in New Bern. 



Operation Medicine Drop events are held throughout the state in an effort to curb the state’s opioid crisis and save lives. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office (OMD) drug take-back event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Commissioner Causey and Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes will address the media at 11 a.m.
